The term ‘modular synthesizer’ refers to a synthesis method in which discrete modules of sound manipulators are connected in flexible, customisable ways, arranged by the user to create unique sounds. This includes digital audio software as well as hardware components, like Eurorack synthesizer modules.
Modular synthesizers have developed from a niche object in a niche market, to widespread use in a large, international community. There are many kinds of Eurorack modules from a variety of sources: established brands, indie manufacturers, DIY kits and other open-source instruction. This project was an opportunity to create a boutique range of modular synths that look good on the rack and as part of a beloved collection.
